Motivated by a love for our city and a love for our neighbors, Habitat fights to put an end to this injustice and build a better Buffalo for everyone. Habitat is a volunteer driven grass roots organization. The idea is simple, low income families make monthly payments on their 0% interest mortgage, which goes into a revolving fund which goes to provide the next family an affordable mortgage. Loan payments are typically less than a monthly rent payment. These loans build a sustainable equity program that helps the next family in line. Construction costs are subsidizes through volunteer labor and donation from the community. Habitat families also put in a minimum of 400 hours of sweat equity by working to build homes for other Habitat families each family helps the next.
