WHAT IS #GIVINGTUESDAY?
For many charities, it's the day where they receive the largest influx of donations! Here at the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), we use #GivingTuesday to kick off our holiday season of charitable giving. #GivingTuesday is consider the most important day of the holiday giving season, and this year it is more important than ever to "Give Together on Giving Tuesday."
#GivingTuesday was established by the United Nations and NYC-based charities in 2012, and has since taken off. It always falls on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, as a charitable response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday; this year, it falls on December 1 globally.
We've created a toolkit to help you plan your own #GivingTuesday and make it the most successful day of the 2020 CFC! Raise awareness about #GivingTuesday using our graphics, social media posts, and prewritten communications to spread the word about our favorite day.
Be sure to use the hashtag #GivingTogetheronGivingTuesday whenever you're posting about it and download our Giving Tuesday Toolkit and watch our #GivingTuesday video featuring Dr. Olsen, Honorary Chair of the CFC.
WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY?
We recognize International Volunteer Day on December 5. This Day began in 1985 by the United Nations as a way to thank the hard work volunteers do selflessly for and with charities globally.
This year, the CFC is inviting all federal employees and retirees to be part of a global network of amazing volunteers, and supplement your 2020 CFC gift with a pledge of volunteer hours. If you have volunteer hours pledged from 2019, reach out to your charity and ask them how you can help fulfill those pledges - even virtually!
Many charities this year need help, even from home. You may be invited to use your professional skills or personal talents, and help them:
- Balance a budget book
- Tutor children after school
- Translate documents
- Review a legal contract
- Put together a care or hygiene package
- Make a mask
- and more!
International Volunteer Day is a great opportunity for charities and individual volunteers to promote volunteerism and recognize volunteer contributions globally; campaign workers, incorporate messaging on volunteerism and importance of pledging your own hours in your #GviingTuesday messaging!
